Texas BBQ

Post by Puff » April 25th, 2015, 6:50 am

Usually a Saturday morning gives me a chance to catch up on TV news but still going to work this weekend. As I sit for a few minutes with a cup o mud planning to get my butt to the car, a story comes on the Today Show on NBC about how the people of Austin Texas are fuming about the constant smell of smoked meats in the air and how the smoke is becoming annoying.

They interviewed Aaron Franklin and a few others. If you can watch it online...you may find it interesting or stupid. I found it stupid.

Where we live there is a Nestle Factory that makes Nescafe' freezes dried coffee. On a low pressure atmospheric bday the smell of coffee engulfs the area for about a mile wide. Nobody's bitchin' and I'm here 35 yrs.

There is a Nabisco bakery near here and you can smell the cookies and what not baking on certain days. The only thing I mind about it is I start drooling!

Where I've lived for the last 30 years the area went from farmland to housing developments. The few remaining farms get barraged by all the new yuppies complaining about the smell when they fertilize in the spring. Gets my goat! :headwall:

If it's tourist season, how come I can't shoot 'em?

I have a heavy smoked meat smell at my house right now. But not complaining, that brisket is going to be great.

Most of have probably heard of Raceay Park in Englishtown, NJ. The place was out in the woods and has been there since 1965. The area around its 500+ acres was desolate. And as Pete mentioned, as the developers sucked the money out of the land and the yuppies moved in, the activities have steadily been curtailed by local noise ordinances.....

They KNEW this place was there and active but they got their way....I'm not really a race enthusiast. I am however a very devoutly active freedoms enthusiast and these components of life have been whittled away steadily. In short...it sucks!

Shoot...is this bordering on politics? Cause I hate that stuff too!

You just need another smoker to build. That will take your mind off this stuff. Or come down and go to the Keys with me next week.

I live just outside of Austin and I agree it is stupid. The yuppies have taken over the Austin area and they prefer to smell their favorite weed burning over some good Q.

Oh...I love the Keys. We used to stop into Sportsmans Paradise and The Shell Man when we lived in Miami. If I had an option RC, I'd take you up on that offer in a heartbeat.

Good Luck fishin'. Save me a piece of cobia if you hook any! ( of course wahoo, grouper and red snapper would be just as good)

Down here on Front St in Kansas City we have a Lipton tea plant and a Purina factory. When both of them are cooking together....its really freakin nasty. I'll take smoked meat smell over any of it.

I live over 60 miles from work...that F&&#%*>\ commute is killing me. Some days it's a 2 1/2 hour ride one way. And the lovely folks of NJ and NY are just so freakin' pleasant. I CANNOT wait to move away....but you know something, they can't ruin my sunny disposition :exp:
