Which burner is best for a discada?

Post by Gizmo » January 7th, 2012, 9:49 pm

Which burner is best for a discada?

Northern tool is listed as Max BTU of 35,000...
http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... 5490_15490

...but the Alpha burner looks like a better design on the controls but only rated at 10-12,000 BTU...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Gas-Stove ... 1715wt_875

Suggestions?

Thanks
Rick

I will say this, the alpha burner is all the BTU's you need. I have a 24" disco and I run the burner on medium to low most of the time. as far as which one is best I don't know since I have not used the other one yet. I do like the alpha one tho.

After I started this thread it occurred to me that maybe there are more than one size of these burners on the market...? Is yours marked with a BTU rating?

Our oldest son bought a burner this summer, it wasn't an alpha but looked just like it. Itl puts out way more heat than you will ever need, and holds a disk very well. I have found some that look just like the alpha on ebay under $30. Type in propane burners.

I just did that last night and got nervous after looking at all the listings for what LOOKS like the same burner....
Somewhere along the way someone told me that I needed 20 to 30,000 BTU to do the job and all the burners that look like the alpha claim 10-12,000 BTU. I'm ready to order one but I want to buy the correct one the first time - unlike how I do most things... :)

My wife is devious! She just discovered that if she loads up amazon with a bunch of her stuff but doesn't hit the order button then when I just now went on there to buy this burner - I'M THE BAD GUY BUYING ALL HER STUFF TOO! - well I'll show her - I just won't buy anything!

...wait a minute - I'm screwed... :headwall:

I was born at night but not LAST night! - NO!

I thought $177 was a bit much for that burner so I almost went to look at the freight calcs... lol
