I wish I would have done some of the extras you did to that one. Well anyway this is what I did on mine. The cowboy cooker is on one center pin so I can turn the whole thing.

Image

Then the racks are on 1 pin on the side so they can swing side to side.

Image

I did the same on my disco so it can be used on the cowboy cooker or a gas burner. It requires anchor pins in the dirt to allow swinging the disco on and off the fire.

It is a give and take though because to allow for the slack fit of the 1” pin in the pipe I tilted the pipe in some places and put a tightening bolt on others. But you can use these pics for ideas.

Alrighty gents
This is what I came up with between Sunday and todayImage
I will admit I kinda cheated and used part of an engine stand. I modified an engine stand for my dad so he could attach a vw engine so he could rebuild it with out doing so much bending over. Anyhow I had the top portion of the original stand in my scrap pile and grabbed it after failing twice before.
I must say, it did the trick. The grate is level and very sturdy. It swivels very smoothly and will raise up another few inches if really needed. It’s predrilled to accept a pin to lock it in place as well.
I took an old plow disc and plugged the center hole and added some horseshoe handles. I got it all shined up and ready to season. I think to season it I will do it in my smoker. Not exactly sure what to do with the cooking grate. Do I season or just let a good fire bake off the impurities?ImageImageImageImagenotice the garage floor is clean and everything is picked up (going for brownie points with the wife)ImageImageImagei decided to add a horseshoe to the bottom of the disc so it would be a little more stable while on the cooking grate.Image
All I have left to do is paint it and season and she will be ready to go.
I made the decision a few nights back to donate this cooker to the local 4H auction they are having in a few months. I hope it will be good enough to raise enough money to support the 4H club my kids are involved with. Wish me luck!!!!!

I don't think you'll have any issues raising money if people realize what you've built. This thing is sweet!

Thanks brother,
I went and purchased another propane tank today for the next build. I pick it up on Friday. I think I will build me another cowboy cooker similar to this one but a little larger. I am also looking to pick up a ring roller to make prettier rings. What can I say, I am addicted to smoker builders!!!!!

Thanks a lot fellers. I sure do enjoy the support one get by being a part of the group.
I have one more mod to add to this cooker. Because it’s so heavy, and going to be auctioned off, I am going to add a clean out slider door to the bottom to make cleaning the ashes out easier. I will post a pic when I get it all fabbed up then season and paint.
I enjoyed doing this build and I want to build a few more like it. I do however want to improve it with better rings. I am looking to purchase a ring roller and looking for something affordable but not cheap that will jack up the pieces I am looking to roll. You fellas have any suggestions or words of wisdom for me?

we bought the 60" version from grizzly industrial a few years back. it is a 16 gauge roller but it does fine on 2" strap and stuff. also has slots for rolling 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" roundbar. was cheap at $700 ish

Last burn before paint. I also want to burn off the grate of any oils or impurities. I plan to season the disco using the pit next weekend when I am smokin some ribs. ImageImage
I took a few more pics of the clean out door I cut into the bottom of the pit
ImageImageImageImage
Like I said before, this was a really fun build for me. There are things I like about it and there are a few things I will change on the next one I build.
Here’s a sneak peek at the upcoming project:
ImageImageImageImage it’s an 80 gallon tank that is airing at and will get washed out tomorrow.
I have had a few requests for cowboy cookers from a few people. These will be fun to do and give me some $$$ on the side.

Very nice indeed.
