Everything scored right in the middle except the pork butt that I got too much smoke in …. looked kinda like bits and pieces of a bowling ball….
and that's all I have to say about that.
And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy.
Current smokers: Egor (trailered RF) and Easybake (tabletop pellet drive)
I know the feeling. Pork is the Bain of my existence. It is the one category I struggle with. I am working on a new profile that I hope finally gets me consistent scores.
I'm the opposite. Normally pork butt is the easiest thing for me to get right - this is the first one to do that to me out of dozens. I'm still getting used to the higher smoke level in Egor and I used a highly recommended rub - not my own - serves me right.

TheCzar and I competed as #BBQVortex this weekend in an SLBS (St Louis BBQ Society) contest in Smithton, IL. We got 6th in chicken and wound up 18th overall. I way overcooked the ribs or we would have done better. This was our first SLBS contest and also our first run as #BBQVortex. We teamed up with "City Boy" Rob Marion of "2 Worthless Nuts". I got to say I really like SLBS! seems to be identical to KCBS except the sucky things are fixed.
Can we finally have a good competitor for the KCBS. Be nice to have a few options as the other ones seem to want to remain regional for the most part. My first comp of the season is next weekend and I am just chomping at the bit as I have am four comps behind now in the points race. Had a later start this year then I would like here in the mid Atlantic.
