Friday June 7th and Saturday June 8th 2013
Please come join us here in Indianola, Iowa on the Square!

The categories will be beef brisket, pork shoulder/Boston butt, chicken, pork ribs. KCBS rules will be enforced.
Awards will be handed out starting at 7 pm on Saturday after judges have finished and turned in their score cards. The Governor or one of his assistants will be handing us his proclamation just before awards time to make us a State Championship in 2014.

Judging will start at 5 pm on Saturday with chicken, pork ribs at 5:30 pm, pork butt/shoulder at 6 pm, and then beef brisket at 6:30 pm. All judging will be handled by KCBS judges who have graciously donated their time and taste buds for our event.
100% pay out with additional prize money and items!

We will Payout to the top 5 places in each of the KCBS meat categories. A Grand and Reserve Grand Champion(if they approve our request for sanctioning otherwise will be 1st and 2nd place) and pay down to 10 places in the overall scores. We will also have a people’s choice award which is optional and free to enter. As a side opener we will host a Chili cook off open to everyone on Friday afternoon and evening with a turn in time of 5 pm. Entry fee is $10.00 per chili pot. (No limit on how many pots of chili you want to enter). We will pay for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. place winners for the chili cook off.

We will also have a backyard BBQ contest open to the public with a fee of $10.00 per entrant. There will be a kid’s class (6 years of age to 15 years of age) and adult’s class (16 years of age and up). So bring your gas, wood, charcoal, or whatever you cook with/on to win!! The Backyard BBQ contest will start at noon Saturday and be turned in at 1 pm Saturday with local celebrities as judges. The adualt winner will get win $100.00 and a trophy. The meat will be provided by Smokin out the Square and to yet be determined. Kid's winner will get $50.00 and a trophy.

We will also hold a 50/50 raffle. Tickets for the raffle can be purchased at the event coordinators area. The drawing will take place at just before the award ceremony. We will start selling tickets at 8 am Friday June 7th 2013 and stop at 4:30 pm June 8th 2013.
We will have 1st Annual Indianola barbecue (Smokin out the Square) T-shirts available for sale at $.00 for small to X-large. Over 2X-large to 4X-large will be $.00. The T-Shirts will also be at the event coordinators tent.

Main cook off information

Entry fee before June 1st will be $125.00 per team. Entry fee after June 1st it will be $150.00
Water will be provided at centralized location.
1) Official KCBS rules enforced.
2) Each team will get one of case of bottled drinking water free.
3) Two free large bags of Ice per team.
4) Set Up starts Friday, June 7th @ 8 am - 6 pm.
5) Cooks' Meeting Friday, June 7th @ 6 pm make sure someone from your team is there.
6) Dance Friday/Saturday starting @ pm live band.
7) Judges to Check-in @ 9 am on Saturday, June 8th.
8) LIMITED TO # TEAMS - FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED!!
9) BBQ Judging begins @ 5 Pm Saturday June 8th 2013 and finishes at 6:15pm Awards to follow at 8 pm but may not start till 9 pm so please be aware of this.
10) Each entrant will be given enough Styrofoam boxes 9 in. by 9 in. for their entries these will be numbered by the staff for blind judging when your entries are turned in.
11) We only have ## sites that are 20 by 30 so respond early as they will fill up fast.
12) People’s choice is free to enter. A separate pork butt must be cooked for this and turned in
13) to be able to judge the people’s choice award you must purchase a ticket at the event coordinators tent for $5.00.
The other ## of sites are 20 by 20.
