You know you're gonna need to build a cover over this dude right? or leave it on concrete and build a building around it. I mean this rascal can't be left out in the weather. It is worth a fortune, you have to protect it.

Did you see what I did there FC, just trying to help you spend your money. lol

Hope the surgery goes well. We were supposed to be in Houston 3 weeks ago. Had to cancel due to wife's asthma. Now we have plane tix to use before next October. Since we don't fly well I can see that going the tubes.

So... Why were we going to Houston... Quilt show. My wife is an avid quilter and this is supposed to be one of the biggest shows in the country. Wait, I'm getting to something...since she has a few sewing machines and one is a commercial monster, I asked her to make this top for the boat. Now she making me covers for the smokers out of marine grade Sunbrella. I have a grommet machine so it ties on easily. Although I did not fully square it up when I started to tie it on. It's a rear extension for extra shade on the center console top.

You on the other hand, need a MASH tent for that monster

Building a Cooker from a Propane Tank

Thanks guys. I plan to cover it like yours RC. But I feel it needs to have its on shed.

Puff- my Mamaw was a quilter. I cherish the quilts she made me over the years.

Re: Building a Cooker from a Propane Tank

Question- any advise on a charcoal grill made from a propane tank?

1. Is there any rules as to exhaust or air vents?

I am thinking about getting a tank 24-36 by 48-60 and go ahead and include it on the same trailer. I originally thought I could possibly grill in the CC of RF but it's just not feasible that I see.

Open to suggestions or advice

With the quality of work you're doing, I would recommend an "Santa Maria" grill Frank built one a while back and some others too if I remember right. I'm not sure what your dims meant but you could make this type fit whatever you want to build.

Yea I like a Santa Maria Style... I am just leaning towards a pit. The dims were 24-36" diameter by 48-60" long. I know a guy that knows a guy that is in the propane business. I told him to see if the guy had something around those dims.

I know what you mean, I just like the way these have a lid that closes and an adjustable cooking grate because you know charcoal is either too hot or too cold.

If my connection hasn't came up with a tank I might go Santa Maria style...I do like em. You got me to looking at them more. I like the type that you can rotate the whole cooking rack. Like if your cooking a bunch of chicken qtrs or wings...etc. you can flip them all at one time. The rack has two cooking racks that sandwich together. I have a small one for my egg.

forty_creek wrote:What would you guys recommend. I have access to either pipe size. The pit calculator recommends 41" of chimney for 8" pipe or 26" for 10" pipe. 26" would still clear WC by 12-14"s. The 8" pipe would make the highest point of the pit to ground be 110"s/9' overall..

So which route would you guys go?
1. 8" chimney at 41"s Tall
2. 10" chimney at 26"s Tall

Thanks for any input.

according to my city's fire department, the smaller diameter stacks draft better, something about physics, and the temp of the expanding air coupled with the weight of the cooler air above.

When I was looking at improving draft on my furnace, smaller diameter did indeed work

Just something to think about.

Not sure I would want a 9 foot tall smokestack......I'd try shorter first as swapping them out is a quick cut and reweld.

:yth: If you get them too tall the air can condense and drip moisture back down into the CC.

10" has been mounted for several months. Hopefully she drafts well

Dual stacks are always an option as well.

It's never too late to cause more work for someone else....

very nice build FC!!!
:LG: :LG:
as far as the stack diameter goes we are working with volume. as long as the volume is correct it will draft fine!
