Yeah I'm pretty excited. This was way more work than I expected but well worth it. A lot of pride goes into it. Love that the list is finally short even though I've really enjoyed this project.

If it was easy, everybody would be building cookers! There's that feeling you get when you have people admiring the cooker and the Q that comes off of it that makes all the time and effort worth it.

Ok got the cooking grate and the angle iron supports to hold it done today. Also added the angle iron supports to my fire box to hold my charcoal basket.

View of the firebox.

My cooking grate did warp a little. Any suggestions on straightening back out. Thanks.

Turn it over and heat it. Put a few bricks on it and let it cool slowly. Then once it is cool, put a couple of rods across the length to steady the whole thing.

Apart from that, looking good and just needs a paint and some Q-View to make it legal. :D

Do you have a shadow plate above the heat tube?

Ajfoxy thanks for the info. What do you mean to put a couple of rods across it?

I don't know what a shadow plate it is so I would have to say no. Haha. I have a baffle above the center tube coming from the fb.

Just weld a couple of rods (rebar) the length of the cooking grate to stiffen up the grate and help stop it from twisting or warping. With expanded metal you are always going to get some warping.

Oh ok. Sounds like a great idea. Will definitely do that. Thanks.

Looking good. I bet you can't wait to get it fired up and cook some Q.

A shadow plate is a plate in your case just a bit bigger than the opening but a little below the baffle. It helps to spread the heat from hitting in a concentrated location.

Dang kinda wish I would have added a shadow plate. That concentration of heat has been one of my worries.

Got all my handle and handle springs done too. The front shelf is removable. Made it out of 1/2 bar. This is pretty much the final product minus the paint. I also need to finish the gas burner. Basically just needs to be welded in place where the pipe is sticking out of the back. Ran out of time. Q view will be coming soon.
