Sorry for bumping an old thread but I didn't see this covered . . .

Any preferences on wood/fuel when seasoning a new smoker?

I have watched a bunch of videos and some say use lump, some say use briquettes, most say use wood but some say don't use hickory because it's too strong . . .

What are your preferences?

I start the fire with charcoal and then add whatever wood that I have on hand but it really doesn't matter that much. The seasoning process just heats up the metal so that the oil can be absorbed and cooked onto the CC. You can use any fuel that you would cook with and it'll be fine.
