Seasoning Smoker

Post by whtsmoke » June 10th, 2017, 10:01 pm

Ok here's a real dozy of a question, I am going to assemble my new smoker tomorrow and after i get it done ans ready to season it the instructions say to build a fire on the fire grate, now are they saying to build a fire on the grate in the smoking chamber or the fire box itself?
I have a baffle plate coming next week so should I wait and season it also at the same time?
Sorry for the dumb questions but its hard to teach and old dog new tricks sometimes. Thanks for the advice.

The fire would be in the fire box grate. And by all means wait for your baffle plate if it is only going to be a few days.
Basically seasoning is just coating the bare metal inside the cook chamber with cooking oil and heating it up to form a sealed surface inside the cook chamber. No deep magic or anything like that.
And the only dumb question is the one you did not ask.

Well tomorrow the baffle arrives and it will be installed and then it will be ready to go, thanks to all for the words of wisdom, now all I have to do is my part.

Another question re: seasoning, maybe this is truly a dumb question......Am I supposed to oil the FB as well as the CC, or just CC?

No need to season the firebox.

And its not a dumb question at all. If you didn't ask it, you still wouldn't know.
