They all have a specific profile and you will have to learn how to use that profile to get it to do what you want. I spent a whole 10hour day doing a “practice burn” on mine before I ever put a piece of meat on it. Learned a lot that day as I could play with it to see how it responded.
Awesome knowledge there. Thank ya SIR

Before painting this beast, we are going to run a fire through it and use a laser heat sensor to work out how hot the steel gets. Will be a good chance to see how it works..

Question: Baffle plates..which design is preferred (or is it good either or), a plate with drilled holes (starting small holes at firebox, working to large holes at cooler end)
Or a series of slidable plates?

Since this will eventually be a solid mounted trailer unit, it will travel a bit. Once the baffle is worked out (as even a temp as possible) ill be wanting to weld the plate/plates in place

Are so close now.. just doors and air inlet on firebox, chimney, rack mounts.. and a hell of a lot of tidying up (those welds arent the best lol) and Ill be ready to run test fires!

The plates you're calling baffle plates are what we call tuning plates, what we call a baffle plate is a solid sheet welded in place from the FB to the opening into the CC. But that is an RF not a standard offset like you're describing. I have never made one with the holes in it but have made some with separate plates. I began with them gaped more incrementally but really I wound up with them right together and used them as an RF.

Cut the back of the trailer off.. now the smoker sits on there with decent weight over the draw bar. Put in an angled baffle plate between the fire and cook chambers..

Cut the firebox off and put it back on square. Only small things to go now then I can run a fire !! \m/

Looking good. And you'll find it's the small, finishing jobs that seem to take the longest.

A few pics.. showing the stack exit from cook chamber, how it flows through the warmer and out the top.

Also showing how I got the base plate folded a little, so fat runs down to a pipe which im fitting a ball valve to.

Lots of welds to clean up... and some other tidy up work to do hah

You may want to frame the FB door with something to keep it from warping. Not trying to be a critic just helpful.

I think that is a valid point RC. Without a frame it could be prone to warping and the door not close properly.

Heres a pic of the firebox door, showing the inside. Its got almost 2 inches of kaowool insulation in there.
I guess it is somewhat braced from the inside?

Can easily frame the outside of the door as well if you guys think it would help. Might look a little better as well.. seems a bit 'boring' just being a plain ol flat peice

I believe what you have will be fine. It looked like you only had a single piece of plate for the door.

:yth: I think with that lump on the inside it would be hard pressed to warp.
