Hello from Delaware. First time smoker builder.

Post by bjustison » August 2nd, 2018, 1:16 pm

I recently purchased the mini gravity feed smoker plans. After reviewing them, drawing the smoker in Fusion 360 and creating .dxf files I went to the local steel supplier and ordered the materials to build the frame and firebox. I'm having all the firebox plate cut to final dimensions. I'm new to welding and have a lot to learn. I bought myself a Lincoln Electric Pro Mig 180 last Christmas and received my YouTube university welding degree. This looks to be a very fun and challenging project. I am open to any help and suggestions for first time builders and novice welders. I hope to start fabrication in a couple of weeks.

Welcome to the crew. Post pics of your build. And remember it is not a race, take your time and enjoy the journey. Ask questions when you get stuck or confused or just need an opinion. Everyone on this site is here to help.

Welcome to the crew!

I have learned that tacking the pieces together, checking for square and straightness then review the plans again before ever welding. Don’t forget to fill the square tubing with insulation before you tack it up. Don’t weld all of one area before the other steel draws and changes when that much heat is exposed to a small area.

Making memories!
