So, I needed a spacer for the latch on the cook chamber, as the latch I have needs to be on a fairly similar height to each other.

So I drafted a spacer that followed the profile of the latch. Which turned out really good.

Few images below.

Gents!!! It is here, this is going to be the best weekend for a while!!!

I hope it works out, as never built something this big like this before. Something already, the riser will now go on the right. I specified the dull polish grain along the long edge, I only ordered dull polish for the outer skins, to save time finishing. The sheets are one sided, and the riser cut out and flue holes are handed, so off the riser holes popped to the other side. All other parts are actually symmetrical, so we can do this, and move on.

Hope I aint fudged nothing else, but we will see.

Few pictures. Note the plastic sheet on the wrong side lol.

DT, even if it does not work as a smoker, it could be used it as a static sculpture. A thing of beauty and form... if not function. Probably get a few design awards in the process.

To funny but true....it's beautiful.

Ever notice that "art" and "function" don't usually play well together tho?

Been busy working today, got a full day in on her.

Was a bit tricking getting the first bits together, but after the box was located, it came together a lot easier.
Only put the outer plates on to hold it from pulling when welding, they need to come off so I can fill cavities with insulation.

Got some pictures of progress, and will have another full day working tomorrow. Hoping by the end of the weekend to be able to mock it up in the frame.

You can tell that you put a lot of thought into the design of this thing. It's really starting to come together now, keep at it and you'll be done in no time.

Got a good shift in the workshop again today, about 6am until 6pm. Good when your tig welding, as you can start early and the only noise is my extract fan.

Few pictures of progress, could not manage get it as far as I wanted. Still have one cavity to close, then a lot of tacks to add, before I can attempt a trial fit. So might be next weekend before I do. I do intend to test it in the frame before I fully weld the end plates, there is some axial float there, and if it isn't perfect I can move them half a mm or so.

I forgot to order four parts, they where for the door, so luckily have not needed them. Means the fabrication has 39 individual parts. Will get those ordered this week, I don't think it will slow me down. Oddly enough, it was the first thing I was going to make, which is handy, as I found out straight away.

Few pictures of progress. Outer skins just tacked so far.

Thanks guys. Stepping back and judging the workload. I think I will be good for a couple months getting this re-grained and to a suitable finish.

Turns out there was more handed parts, so I could not move the riser, so will have to bring the top and bottom plate from mill finish to DP1.

I have not even started drawing the firebox and oven parts either, so I think realistically, this could be scheduled for the first burn in the new year, or if i am lucky xmas.

One other thing, I did order those parts, they just didn't send them, which is good as no more money needs to leave my hands. Will see what they say today, but hopefully they can post them down for the coming weekend, they are not that big.

So it is 35 parts, and I was right first time :)

Managed to get an hour in after work tonight, cut the insulation and welded the nuts on the back of the outer skin plate.

Be tacking shut tomorrow, and in a position for a test fit there after. Probably take me 30 mins to prep, as i cant get my lift table in with the bars on, so will need rebuilding from top down with the box in there. With that in mind, i am hoping for wednesday.

Few pictures below.

How are you lifting the boxes as you build them ? They look to be pretty heavy.

:yth: and presumably you've allowed for getting it out the door. Or do you take the bits out and assemble outside?

It got past the stage were I could lift it very early during the weekend. Since then I have been rolling the box over on my welding table, and then sliding the box onto my 1Te lift table. I am generally pretty good a figuring something to get it shifted. I also have a 2Te land rover engine crane, but i have not needed to call for that just yet.

To get it up to the height to install, I will need to chuck a couple of pallets under it then simply pump it up on the lift table.

I think it is about 150kg, which is about 330lb and climbing.

Nope no allowance, although it would fit without the flue. Door openings are 2m and the height of this is 1.8m.

I intend to take it apart and assembly it outside, mainly for the weight. I think all in will be somewhere between 300kg - 500kg.

At least no-one will be walking of with this :)

I had a real itch today, so I decided to leave work early and get the cook chamber up in the frame. Real pleased with the results. I was a little concerned of the overhang, but I will be able easily work the stove and grill under the cook chamber.

Very few times do i stop and reflect, but i cant stop smiling about this. Turned out just as I had hoped. :)

Few pictures.
