Thanks guys, I am indeed am so close to being about 50% done, I have ordered the gas struts and have trialled their fit with success, the clearance was tight, and I am real pleased with results.

I bought a flue with damper, from a pizza oven, I am keen to close this part of the project, so decided this was sensible thing to buy. I could make everything, latch and hinges etc, but you have to balance it out, or else you will get lost in the detail, and never get done.

Took a video of the gas struts in operation, even a baby can operate. Pleased as punch.

The struts make short work of opening the door for sure. :kewl:

Thanks guys, was real pleased with how they work out.

I got the flue today, and did a trial fit, I can work with this for sure. It needs cutting down to correct length, but wont do that until a lot later, be nice if it drafts good without the extension on, as that looks real neat.

I really like that short stack too. Not sure if I can keep it that small though, as until I design the bottom half, I am unsure if there will be a y piece into this flue, or another flue. My preference is the y piece, but when I am using the stove and oven, I need to send pallets through this thing, which I don't want the smoke going through the cook chamber.

Progress feels slow, but it is the nature of the beast now, it is slow monotonous task.

Still some kinda before and after pictures below. I am getting there for sure!!

Getting close to being done on the burnishing, so I thought I would put it back in the frame to have a feel for how it is going to look.

Strap a heat gun to the frame to see how it would perform. Seemed to get up to temp in about 30 mins of so, and was a 1.6kw heat gun. Was a bit imbalanced heat wise, but the baffle plate is not properly fitted yet, it is a bit warped and I am going to put a gasket on it.

Few pictures below.

Thanks Aj

I went back to check the temp in the cook chamber over 2 hours later. The baffle plate was still hot to touch, it had gone from 225 to 140. I am pretty happy with that. If a 1.6kw heat gun can get this going, I feel pretty confident in the design now. Heat loss will be further improved when i actually install the gaskets on the door and baffle plate.

Got some special shafts to make to hold the gas struts, then I will likely move on to the drawing the bottom half, as the rest other than that is purely cosmetic.

There is however a good couple more weekends work of sanding, but this can be done at any time, and I am keen to see things move forward again.

Make a couple little shaft for the struts, now i have moved onto the drawing.

Got a few pictures, but i still quite early on, so might be difficult to interpret.

The bottom half will be insulated with 50mm ceramic blanket. The oven then has an cavity of 50mm to allow heat to travel all around the oven, both the firebox and oven will be able to damp independantly.

I will be able to send just the firebox straight out the flue, and have everything else off. IE bypass both smoker and oven, and i will be able to turn each on independtly.

The flue will have a y piece on the section on the smoker, and the firebox and oven flue will join in, this will come from the rear of the both, it is quite difficult to explain and i have not drawn it yet. i will add a fabrication on the back, like a rectangle section, which will receive the smoke from both the oven box and firebox, if there dampers are open, a flue will come out of this at the end, at the same place the other flue is. The aim here is when you look directly at it from the front, you shouldnt see the second one, as it wil be behind it, and hidden by the riser as well.

Few pictures of progress.

That is going to be sharp looking. I also like the control you will have on the exhaust.
