Should there be a baffle plate where I drew the red line? Also how should it be configured. Thanks.

You should call Frank and he can answer that question for you.

JRINNE wrote:So a question for you guys. I will have an opening between the cc and the wc and also between the fire box and the wc. I believe I need to install a baffle plate in the warming cabinet above these openings. Do I attach it to the cook chamber and have it open on the other three sides? Also how big of a gap needs to be left? Thanks.

I did something like you’re talking about on mine. I didn’t weld it in, I made it into a drip pan/baffle plate. I am really glad I did, but I don’t have my rack slides welded to the walls on the sides. This allows the heat/smoke to rise up on both sides. It touches on the front and back to catch all the drippings. I am so glad I did it that way because when I cook a lot of stuff in that cabinet it catches a lot of stuff.

When those plans were made most folks were just using the cabinet for a warmer and wouldn’t need all you are talking about.

As RC, I put a plate in mine...kinda like a bottom ‘shelf’ below the lowest rack. It is not welded in but sits on a slide and is situated so there is a 3 inch gap all the way around it for heat/smoke to travel up into the cabinet.

Well I was back at it for a bit today, gained a little ground on the fire box and warming cabinet. It’s nice on the wallet getting free metal but a lot more time pieceing everything together. I hav another question, I was originally going to put the fb door and the wc door on the back. I’m thinking now of leaving the wc door on the bac and putting the fb door on the side. Do you see any issues with doing this? Thanks

It won't affect the performance but it can cause some positioning issues with the tire/fender being right where the door opens.

Made a little more headway today, stack is on, 3 sides of wc are done, vents and sliding damper in bottom of wc done except for the handle. Should finish the wc tomorrow and start on the doors. Seems to be coming together pretty well.

Was able to get a little more accomplished, a lot of grinding lol, racks in warming cabinet, doors on warming cabinet and the fire box. For the rack supports I used 3 smooth rods, which can be removed, or the racks can be removed and the rods used for hanging meats. Not sure if it’ll work yet but hoping to be able to smoke sausage hanging in the warming cabinet. Here’s a few pics.

Made a little more headway, main cook chamber grates are done. Installed the damper between cook chamber and warming cabinet, along with dampers for firebox and both stacks. Also was able to finish the fire basket. Just have door latches to fab and should be able to do a test run this week.
