Oklahoma Joe Longhorn Reverse Flow MOD

Post by SmokingPT » October 14th, 2018, 9:03 pm

Although I wanted to build my own smoker and even got the plans, it did not workout. So I got an Oklahoma Joe Reverse Flow smoker and started the MOD. I did all the topical things of adding gaskets and calking the joints when I assembled it. In addition, I had fire bricks so I put them around the fire box. Bottom and side. After my first smoke, I am wondering if that was a good idea. Does it keep the heat in or pull it out and keep it from going into the cooking chamber?

I just wonder if the added bricks will make your firebox too small

I put the fire brick on the outside of the firebox. Made multiple cuts to try to keep contact with the metal. (Tried to attach pictures but got a system error.)

Skip the bricks. Not really necessary in my opinion. Seal it up, as you did, to help efficiently and then just cook with it. There are a million things you can do that “might” help a little but at the end of the day you are not going to make a Lang out of it.

Congrats on entering the smoking world. We look forward to seeing what you can cook with it.
