May get a piece of metal...need help with it

Post by towtruck » April 1st, 2019, 10:41 pm

I may be getting a piece of pipe that is 1/2" thick, 36" in diameter, and 48" long. Trying to think of the best use for it. First thing that comes to mind is a rotisserie unit. I just happen to have a large variable drive unit that would allow for an almost infinite speed adjustment. It weighs about 100 lbs on it's own. It is worth about $1,000 and is just sitting waiting for a job.

What do you all think would be the best use of that chunk of steel ?

I think you nailed it. A 36'' diameter pipe would make a great rotisserie. You should look up the one YTQ built, it's pretty nice.

I have followed that build and that is the one that made me think of it....

No lie there.....If I do actually get it and build it there will be some serious weight to it. Thinking about making it to sell....too early to even go there yet as the metal has not even shown up yet.

I built a rf last year out of 1/2" wall 18" pipe for my brother-in-law. I think you'll have one heck of a cool cooker for sure.

Before you put the work into it, I might suggest seeing if there is a market for such a unit in your area. Shame to build it then not have a buyer.

Also, finding a buyer now allows for a deposit and an opportunity for him to have it built like he wants it.

If I do this it will get built and used long before I look for a buyer. I would make sure it was all dialed in before selling it or taking anyone's money. Once the wife gets wind of this things could go sideways :PBox:
