Locally Sourced Frame Insulation

Post by bvbull200 » August 9th, 2019, 11:37 pm

Looking for suggestions on locally sourced insulation that I can stuff in the frame. I'm starting a build and the insulation I ordered is on its way, but won't be here before we plan to tack together the square tubing frame (DPGF).

What can I pick up from Lowe's or Home Depot to do the trick and how much? By the time we get to skinning the thing, I should have the full bundle of insulation available.

Thank you for your insight.

I spent quite a bit of time looking for the more rigid rockwool boards locally a year ago when I built my double pan GF. I could get rockwool batting locally (Lowe's,) but it'd be more difficult getting an full and even fill in the tubes.

I couldn’t find anything local last time I needed it. Not sure where you got it or what kind of delivery time you are talking about but I got mine in about 2-3 days. If your timeframe is similar I’d just take a day or two off the project and wait for it.

I was trying to avoid losing this weekend for working on it, but that might be where I'm at.

Yep, understand that.

I waste more time on projects that way myself. Always one more part I need and forgot to order. As we speak, I’m waiting on 2 shipments that won’t get here till Monday afternoon so my weekend will be spent goofing off as well.

I actually bought a bundle of batt insulation from a guy off of the app Offer up . The plastic wrapper was torn some looked like it's been thrown around the garage a while.
Lowes sells the stuff, but not always available at all stores. I bought rigid insulation from them, but had to travel to a different store.

Rockwool rolls of batting meet specs and works fine- I used both and seem like similar material
