Shawdow plate ?

I built a 250 reverse flow exactly how i was told and she {un named } is sweet 5 degrees end to end ,insulated fire box 1/2 " plate .
Problem is it's got a hot spot right above the fire box back in the end of the tank . Would a shawdow plate help so i can fill it up .
If you think so please tell me what a shawdow plate is .

I might help the hot spot but it could change the temps on that end a little more than 5*.....if you can place a plate in there temporarily you could tune it a bit before setting it in stone.

Yes...I had a lot of success with a shadow plate. I found the heavier the better.

So it's just a heavy pice of steel on the plate below the grate . Would a 18 lb flywheel work ?

She has run all morning 7 hr and still has snow on top . Iam running cheese .

Actually, no. A shadow plate is typically located a few inches below the baffle plate. The idea is it deflects some of the direct heat. Putting it above the baffle plate just acts as a heat sink. It will work for a while while it heats up but is then just adds more mass to radiate heat.

By heavy,I was referring to flat plate around 0.25 inch or so.

Well my 13 x 18 shawdow plate made it to senstive when looking it set to low and blocked to much throat gonna try a different way maybe 4" pices and turn them once i get them up in the top or pull them in from the top

Your shadow plate should not block any of the throat. It needs to mounted above the throat opening.

I figgered that out ,but it's rained for 3 days . So to small of throat will make it difficult to control .

You betcha it will. Too small or too big on any of your openings can wreak havoc on temperature control. It's all based off of volume so you need to be pretty close to the recommended size.
