Son of a ... I’ve been there! Don’t you have a half a spool of some old flux core or .030 wire hiding on a shelf somewhere? I hate hanging it up before I finish my list of to-dos. Looks great so far sir.

All good. It was time to hang it up anyways.

I’ll snag a big spool tomorrow and get after it.

Thanks

Making some nice progress. Don’t forget that now is the time to put in a shadow plate. Much easier to put it in before you weld the baffle plate down.
I put that shadow plate in before the baffle. Thanks again for the recommendation

Trying to upload photos. Tapatalk isn’t being nice......

Anyhow, smokestack installed and half of the CC door framed. Going to finish the frame tonight and bend to fit (door sprung). Hopefully I will have the hinges welded and door mounted before stopping tonight.

If I could just keep the family from parking their cars in my shop, that would be a start! We make do, sir, and still dream about being in the shop when we’re not.

Coming along nicely. :kewl:

And running out of wire... without a spare is a bummer.

Today’s update. Building frame out.

Tomorrow will connect front casters, build uprights to frame, and join CC/FB.

Can you move those casters to the outside corners? Looks tippy with them pushed in from the edges.

Good observation. That's why it helps to have a second set of eyes

I would have to weld the caster directly to the frame, because the bolt hole will not be exposed enough. The casters in the photo are 12” center to center.

Frame is 18”w
FB is 22"w
CC is 24"w dia

The reason I made the frame 18" was because of the uprights. I did not want them to come up to close to the door.

Here is what I am thinking (photo not to scale). Measurements for uprights are approximate. I will confirm length after casters on.

Thanks for the insight on casters. Tried to make some work that I already had....

Going to purchase different ones with wider bolt hole pattern to clear the 2” sq tube.

Setup will look similar to this build.

I just welded the casters directly to the frame. Had to grind off the zinc plating and wore a respirator. I see a lot of folks doing that.

Yep...that’s why we have welders. Just don’t get the bracket too hot so as not to damage the wheel.

Off with the old, on with the new. I bought some wider spaced casters. They are still the same 5” in height.

Now I am able to mount them at the corner sections. This will give me the different options in the future if I plan to permanently mount on the back patio or to a trailer.

What is your opinion to mounting the frame directly to the firebox or placing small spacers in between the frame and the firebox (I have about an inch to play with)?

I would like to not add any more height if I don’t have to, but I want to keep the heat out of the frame.

If it were to go onto a trailer, I’d worry about the extra stress on your welds between the fb and the cc and the other mount points to the frame. All that weight bouncing down the highway wrenching on the frame if you didn’t hard mount it. I don’t think a couple extra mount points between the FB and the frame will transfer too much heat.
