First time buildee

Post by Chris74 » June 1st, 2020, 10:51 am

I have a 250 gallon propane tank I have figured the fire box size but my question is how to figure out where to cut out for the throat on the end

The throat should be at the very top of your firebox and the top of the firebox should be level with your baffle plate (if you are doing a reverse flo).

Yeah I know it needs to be at the top on the fire box I was meaning the tank and I am not doing a reverse flow.

I had this same question last week & a few legends stepped in with the advice I needed.
I don’t know how to copy the comments from my build, into this thread, but if you go to my build thread, comments #41 to 50 something will help you out.

Frank Cox talked about this on his podcast about RF vs Trad offset smokers the other day. He says that with a traditional offset, you have more flexibility on placement since you are not putting a baffle plate above the throat. He says that the FB and the CC can overlap by as much as 50%. I don’t see many that overlap that much but it seems like you can be flexible.
