Aside from finishing the trailer paint touch ups and a handful of minor tweaks, the TN trailer is tested and complete. I spent the morning finishing up attaching the fenders. I finished early so I figured I’d drag it out onto the driveway, do a test burn and season the grates and the rest of the inside. I was having fun so I figured I’d linseed oil the outside. I have a few thoughts about how it ran.
1st - it ran beautifully. Once it got warmed up, both ends were within 15° of each other. I want to do some more testing on temps at the bottom grate level vs the top. I noticed I burned the seasoning oil off the top grate closest to the FB. Not surprising considering the throat baffle I installed which appeared to redirect heat very quickly to the top of the tank.
2nd, it was a windy day and I didn’t bother closing either of the side grates down as I was trying to keep the temps close to 400° for the linseed application. The result was some ash made it’s way into the CC. I mounted the log rack fairly high in the FB. I think I will put a second rail below the top rail for the rack so it can be mounted about 3” lower. It’s currently 6” off the bottom, maximizing airflow below the coals which seems to work very well ... except may be contributing to the ash in the CC. Wind contributed as well I’m sure but it can’t hurt to have a lower option.
3rd - there seemed to be a little dip in the middle of my prep table/rack so I’m going to install a middle support to keep it level.
So ...
1. touch up paint on the trailer
2. additional log rack rail in the FB
3. center support for the prep rack
... oh, and I need to get a wheel for the tongue jack. She’s a heavy lady.

That's excellent work and attention to detail. That folding table is ace! I'm trying to figure out how to put something like it on my current build. Is that frame square tubing?

Thx hogaboomer. Yes. 3/4” square. It was a lot of work bending the expanded metal under to get that flush fit on this. I may use 3/4” angle instead of square next time and mount the expanded up underneath. Love the look of how it turned out though.

I use 1 x 1/8 angle for my grill frames, looks like you used square for that, too. I made a FB grate with it for my personal smoker, too, but it's showing a little bit of warp from the heat. Thinking I might rather use square for the next one, or try to somehow beef up the angle a little. I'm gonna build it today, so I have to use what I have on hand, otherwise I'd just get some thicker angle.

Just noticed the snow on the ground in your pick. Here in NY we have not had any snow yet.

Thx Cole. Appreciate it.

Hogaboomer - you earn the good weather. Like we do. You go through blistering heat and we go through frigid winters. Makes us better people, right?

Are you getting used to seeing it leaving yet. Has to be at least a little tough seeing all your beautiful work driving off.

Your build looked great, I am sure it will see a lot of use.

Thanks Dargo/Cole. It’s weird having all that space open in the shop. It was a pretty standard build but I am proud of the personal custom touches like the smoke collector, the throat baffle and the vents on the FB. It was a fun build for sure.

Hard to see them go......but something always fills the spot.

I just donated an antique tractor to my hometown museum and made a bunch of room.....only to have the museum ask if I will restore a 103 year tractor for them......why did I say yes :headwall:

Hahaha. I love it. Already got a 60 gallon tank in the wings. Firebox is cut and waiting.
