Looks amazing. Love the reuse of the OEM bungs for the handle!! I am thinking of ditching the bullet hinges on the CC door and moving towards what you have

Looks good! Are you keeping that one for yourself?

Never mind, I see where you said you already have a buyer.

I’m feeling kind of partial! I might try and talk him into an octagon I’ve got and keep this one.

Thx sir. I try and keep the tanks in their original state as much as possible. I like the character. I even reused the tank spec plate as the door stop.
I do like this hinge style with the exception they tend to have a bit of play side to side. I split a bushing in half and tacked the to the rod on either side of the tube to eliminate the play. Fixed the issue but I think if I’m more careful with the bends I might be able to snug it up more without using the bushings.

No sir, unfortunately we have been short handed at work for quite a while now so I've had very little time for any side projects. I don't have a shop at home so I have to build at work and when I clock out I leave as soon as possible. lol I've been brainstorming a cabinet style cooker with a friend and I'm hoping to get started after the first of the year. I have to keep myself entertained by keeping up with all of your builds and the others on the forum but it does make me a little bit jealous. Keep up the great work!

Sweet! You better post some pics. I’m sure we’ll jump in with suggestions, lol.

I also really like the hinges Hogaboomer builds. I may give those a try on a build soon.

Wrapping up this build with final cook. Couple things to tweak but 99% done. 13# choice. 12 hours at around 225.

Well, an interesting day today. Cleaning up the smoker - filling some grinder scars, touching up some bad welds, refinishing the handle hardware, and wire-wheeling all the steel. Getting her ready to oil up the unpainted steel. I was just finishing up - hitting the stack cover - and the wheel grabbed the hinge and hit me straight in the forehead. Here’s a reminder for everyone to wear a face shield. Could have been worse but was definitely avoidable ... I have 2 shields hanging on the wall. Bad place for them to be.

The pit faired better. Still working on the finish. One more coat of linseed on the handle and waiting on a spring handle for the FB.

I always say that we put our blood, sweat and tears into building these things but I think that you took it a little to far! All kidding aside, I'm glad it was just a flesh wound. The pit is lookin great!

Yikes!! I am always one to at least run safety glasses. Being an inspector my eyes are my livelihood. That will be quite the scar, glad its just a flesh wound! PS..scars tell better stories then tattoos lol

I always wear safety glasses - can’t see much w/out them - hearing protection and a respirator. Just got caught skipping the face shield. Better this than taking a shattered cutoff wheel to the face. Good reminder!
