Rotisserie for Offset Smoker

Post by djnordeen » January 20th, 2021, 4:25 pm

Hello All,

I would like to add a rotisserie to my 60 gallon smoker. I think I could get 3 shelves on the rotation. If the inside diameter of the cook chamber is 19", How wide should I make the 3 shelves. Is there a formula?

Thanks, Dan

Hey Dan, cool idea. Help me out though. I have seen these and wonder at how useful they are given rotisserie cookers usually run off direct heat at high temps. Have you seen this add a benefit to an offset? Just curious.

Rotisserie for Offset Smoker

Dave,
Rotisserie Pork loins are wonderful. I have done a bunch over the campfire on a spit. I plan to have both a single spit and hopefully a 3 tray spit for ribs.
I have a treadmill motor, chain and gears. I bought a AC to DC controller and a rectifier bridge to control the motor.
As for heat temps, I plan to have the center just above the midpoint in the chamber. So it would be the same as smoking a Pork Butt.

I would make them as wide as possible. If I visualize it correctly, you will be limited by your center pivot rod so slightly less than the radius of the chamber would be a good place to start.

Sounds like a fun project. We had a build on here several years ago where he build a rotisserie inside a huge 30 inch (or so) chamber and claimed it was awesome. I’ll try to look up his post.

Yes, that's the same one. Here's a link to the build thread https://smokerbuilder.com/forums/viewto ... =17&t=4907
