Baffle Plate

Post by MedicMike » April 21st, 2021, 8:45 am

What is the distance the baffle plate on a RF needs to be from the bottom of the cook chamber? I am building a 20"x40" smoker. I have some extra plate that I am trying to decide what I can use it for. I can make a 12" wide plate x whatever distance long. At 12" long my measurements placed the plate at 2 1/4" off the bottom of the cook chamber. Is 2 1/4" enough gap to allow proper air flow? If not, how far should the baffle plate in a RF be off the bottom of the cook chamber?

I think I'm about 4.5-5 inches off the bottom with mine. I would have to measure to be certain.

I have mine at 9" inches above the bottom and 3" below the cooking grate on a 100 gallon CC. I like to have 2 - 3" of a gap below the grate, then a few inches above the throat opening.
