It sure how I missed this post but just got caught up but welding both legs of the hinge to the door is classic. Thanks for sharing that as it re-assures that I am not the only one that does goofy things like that.
man that day was a blast, we laughed and laughed when we figured it out, but not gonna lie it had us scratching our heads for a good few minutes. the look on Tom's face when the door dropped the second time was priceless.

on a side note got a new tool for the garage, but lost a weekend cleaning and organizing the garage sad part is it's going to need at least one more day of cleaning and organizing.

Love new toys....but they always come with a few days of downtime. Besides finding it a new home, new tools always need electric outlets put in, shelves/racks built to organize accessories and a few modifications made to get it set up perfectly. Don't even count the time it takes to re-make or adjust all your jigs that were designed for the old tool, lol.

Still jealous!

Very cool. First project? Mine was a cart and a welding table.

Don’t be, I don’t really have room for it and will have to move a car to the street to weld in the garage. Luckily one of my projects found a new home, and I’ll have a little more room when it’s finally gone next month.

Kind of, technically just finishing it, but will be the first thing I actually welded on that I get to use beside test scrap. I took the easy way out and bought a cheap cart from HF, but I do want to build a cart.

I’ve built a few bikes but was lucky enough to have someone take care of any thing I needed welded.

Next is a fix a bread rack for the wife then I want to build the chair below or something similar.

Stopped to get gas a few days ago and smelled bbq, looked up saw something interesting. 2 CC with a firebox in the middle.

I went and got closer to the smoker while there, and the guy running it came out. I told him I was building my own, he opened it up and it was stacked with briskets, almost one on top of the other.

I’m thinking it might have been power coated. I has to use my grill brush to get the top layer of paint off, but it only scuffed the next layer. The tank is from 1968 and made by a bridge company so...

The propane tank I did was like that. Just cooked the crap out of it and it basically turned powdery. Ended up flap disking it a ton.

Getting a little closer, got the tank sanded, got some paint down, and almost done with the racks.

I like that design of rack---with the flat of the angle iron on top and the expanded metal underneath. Gives it a nice "finished" look.

:yth: I was using square tubing and bending the expanded metal 45 degrees to get that same look. Went to angle iron like yours and like it just as much with half the work. Nice work.
Since you have sliding racks, are you going to add handles for pulling and tabs so they don't tip down when you pull them out? Pretty easy to add and very useful IMO.

Tabs are there, and yes to handles, just not sure what I’m going to use yet.

Ask and you shall receive, just have to cut some expanded metal to fit over the 1/2” bars. It’s just going to lay on top so it’s easy to replace. The 1/2” bars are recessed double the thickness of the expanded metal.

There will be another place for the fireplate 1/2 way to the top, unfortunately my brand new welder took a dump, it’s stuck on scorching sun level. Store I bought from won’t take it back or exchange it, and manufacture that was originally helpful even providing schematics stop replying ~x(

Edit: I don’t want to return it, just want a working welder, I even offered to buy a more expensive welder and told sorry we can’t take it back even if it’s not working you opened the box.
