I've never put in a gasket, I don't know how to do it.

i used the flat stick on stuff for the CC, if I can do it you can. :)

I found a bunch of washers in my crap collection that was half the thickness of it, taped them to the CC aperture before welding the hinge on, then stick the gasket to the door flanges after.

I’ve used stick on gasket and cement on rope gasket. Both are fine. Stick on is way easier and cleaner. Doesn’t last as long as the cement on rope stuff but much easier and cleaner.

I figure if I can get the flange pretty close, it's probably good enough. I mean, you got all that heat and smoke going out the stack the whole time, what difference does it make if a little wisp comes out the door? I can see if you had a gaping gash that let a bunch of wind in. I don't even put anything in my probe holes anymore, I just let them vent. I guess if the wind was blowing pretty hard I might shove some foil in there...

:yth: I used thinners on mine, stuck well and hasn't shifted at all. The two rolls of 1/2" wide stuff I got were only around $15 delivered.

Also has the handy extra of making the CC lid closing quieter. :)

Thank, Bro! This is the no frills model. I sure would like to see how they get the spring handles on those round bar handles.

Are they solid bar? I’m sure they just put the springs on a straight bar and just bent them on either end.

Btw, I saw your reply on FB today. How pissed are you to see everyone telling that guy to sell his pit for $2500?

I saw $2k plus, which is fine with me. That's what it's worth, but it would take forever to sell it at that price around here.

I sold The Cadillac for $2k, but it took 8 weeks to do it.

Thanks! I spent all day yesterday working on the firebox door. Burned me out so bad I had to take the day off today. I bent one piece of round bar and had to take a nap.

I have to come up with a simpler firebox door.

What do you guys think of this fire grate? I think I'll tack some expanded metal on top.

I like the grate. I might make it narrower so it sits just a bit lower. Your coals would be closer to your wood if they fell through and you’d still get a ton of air up underneath. I’ve been thinking about this for my current pit. Probably test it as is first. See how it runs.

They shouldn't fall through with the expanded on top.

There's definitely a lot going on with the door but it has to go somewhere.
