No bi-metal strips for you! (interested to find out what direction it sends the gases in though, haha)hogaboomer wrote: ↑August 24th, 2021, 1:29 pmSo, the Ugly Duckling is just a standard offset, no tilted baffle plate. But I'm mulling over the idea of installing a louver type plate above the throat. It would be on a rod that can be adjusted from the outside, to regulate the amount of heat that rises to the top, and at the same time deflect some heat sideways under the grate. The Hogaboom Louver, (patent applied for), coming soon to a smoker near you.
Good work getting that hammered out in 12 days! Interested to see what you come up with for a flapper device too. Send 'em back to the box store with best wishes I say!hogaboomer wrote: ↑August 24th, 2021, 8:15 pmThat's it. all the fab work is done, except for the louver. I don't think I have any plate for it, gonna have to study on it a while. Maybe I can cobble something together.
All that's left is stain and finish the baseboard, and burn and buff the old paint, then linseed oil.
I had a guy stop by today to look at Big Tex and The Texas Ranger, moaning about the price and bitching about the cheap smokers they sell at the big box store.
Might take a little trial and error to get it right. I'm trying to decide now if I make it a flat plate, with the pivot in the middle, so that when the firebox side is tilted up, the other side is tilted down. Or make it like an flattened angle iron, so the cook chamber side stays horizontal. Probably just have to try one and see how it works, and if it needs to be changed.Brewmaster wrote: ↑August 24th, 2021, 9:21 pmGood work getting that hammered out in 12 days! Thx Boomer. Had some help on that from a buddy who does graphics workhogaboomer wrote:That Que North you got is pretty slick!
I'm betting this works all kinds of awesome when in use! Patented flapper and door draft both look great!hogaboomer wrote: ↑August 25th, 2021, 1:32 pmWell, here it is, not much to it. Hopefully it will help out with the hot spot a little. Didn't have a wide enough plate to get it closed off all the way sitting dead level, it has a quarter inch or so of gap at the firebox wall.
I did the firebox vent different this time, hope it works.
I don’t know … I thought you lap steel sounded pretty good [emoji23]hogaboomer wrote:Pretty dang squeaky!!!
I'm gonna check it out tomorrow. I was planning on doing it today, but working in all this heat finally wore me down.Brewmaster wrote: ↑August 25th, 2021, 10:57 pm
