Smoke Stack Size

Post by Backyardbrewbq » October 30th, 2021, 4:59 pm

I am doing a 250 gallon smoker build. I have a question about the smoke stack. I have noticed almost all professional pit builders do a 6" diameter 6' pipe however I have a 8" diameter 55" pipe section laying around. I haven't seen any 250s with 8 inch pipe. Any reason why the 8" is a bad idea?

Not sure if it is a “bad” idea. I imagine once you go so big then cooker will draft too well and hot air escape too soon. I imagine there is fine line on Stack size and volume of pit

You can always install damper and adjust as needed

Will work fine with appropriate Damper . Built a 250 a few years back with 8" scrap stack works great . Having said that fire box dimensions and venting are most critical! There are calculators and very knowledgeable people here! Enjoy your build .[emoji481]
