Post by Fattdaddy » February 23rd, 2022, 7:43 am

I thought I would try to post some pics of my 250 gallon traditional offset build as it progresses.

Really good work, looks great!

Intrigued what the 4 studs on the collector are going to be used for though?

Good eye! I have those on both sides of the collector. I made two brushed stainless steel name plates with spacers behind the to keep them from laying on top of the steel and for the 3d effect.

Thank Ya’ll for the responses, I will try to keep the prigress updated as I go.

Thanks, I had a vision of what I wanted this one to look like and I had several pieces of stainless plate and tubing left over from other builds. Figured I’d try to put it all to good use.

What kind of firebox are you going to put on that thing?

Hey Sir,

I struggled between square with a round insert, square and fully insulated but finally settled on a square firebox. WelI somewhat square, 30"x27"x24" with a 2" insulated top.
I just went and bought the steel yesterday, OMG! prices are soaring, but walked out with 2- 4x8x1/4" sheets of steel, 1 piece of 3/4" flat expanded and some angle. Figured I better buy it now cause I'm sure the price will only be going up.
I'm not going to fight handling that plate: :BDHorse: so, I have an appointment scheduled tomorrow to have it sheared. It will definitely be worth the cost of having it done.
This build is really moving along pretty smooth with just a few bumps in the road. Once I get the fire box pretty close to done, I need to set my sights on the trailer build. I will be reaching out for some feedback from folks around here when that time comes. I'm sure there is a lot of experience lurking around here.
:welder:

Thanks,
Fattdaddy

I have to agree. Having the pieces for my last fire box sheared was money very well spent.

I bought my 0.25 plate in a 4x10 sheet as it fit my pieces better. It was a huge undertaking to move, mark and cut it all but I had practically zero waste when I was done. With that said, a sphere is the way to go!
