Man you’re doing great!
I’m just now getting caught up on some reading.
I think you’ll be very happy with that Smoker!

One note on throat size: as long as the throat opening is not smaller than recommended, you’ll be fine.

I noticed your plate at the top of the throat as Pete pointed out.
I would cut that out, but for the experience, you should run the smoker first and see what it does.

Remember… it’s just metal, we can always weld it back!
Cabinet guys…. Not so much haha!

Keep it up! You’re doing awesome!!

Thank you Frank! I greatly appreciate the complement, and the advice on the throat.

I'm almost done with it, just have to install a dampener on the stack, and put a latch on the fb door.

Can't wait to give it a try.

I'll keep you posted

Other than a couple things like putting a latch on the fb door and installing the thermometers, I'm pretty much done.

Last weekend I did a burnout and seasoned the inside with veggie oil, and linseed oil on the outside.

This weeked/yesterday, I did my first cook on it: Chicken, Chuck roast, and some brats, everthing turned out great.

Below are some pictures, starting with the seasoning and burnout from last weekend, and my first cook from yesterday.
Please don't laugh at my offcenter fb door opening :oopssign: :

The following pics are from yesterday starting my first cook. The day before (Friday), I installed the stack dampener.

Later, I plan on making a wood rack/shelf below, and possibly a fold down table/shelf in front of the cc door.

I'll keep you posted.

And don't fear the top of the throat being blocked off, they work awesome built this way, some might even say they work way better :-) ;)

I finally built and installed the latch for my fb. I also installed two Lava Rock thermometers. I was going to order a couple tel tru thermometers, but at $70 to $100 for two of them is more than I wanted to send. I may regret it later????

I still need to install the stainless steel heat probe port, but I need to get a larger drill bit before I do. The largest one I have, is just a little bit to small.

The last thing I need to do, is put a wood rack underneath.

I also want to thank everyone for the nice words. Thank you!

Great job!

A step drill is a very handy addition to the tool kit, saves buying loads of different size bits for small jobs. :)

After 2-months, I'm finally done! I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you all again for your help.

The only thing I need to do now, is move it to my BBQ pit area next to the house.

My next project, will be making a BIG smoker out of a 30"x10'6"x3/8" pipe that was given to me.

Before I start on it. I'll need to get some advice/suggestions on how to move forward.

I'll start another post when I'm ready to start.
