Actually - now that I think about it - that might just work - but just hook up the delivery line that is going TO the air compressor's pressure tank so it's aimed at the firepot.
I think delivery air would be about the right volume... more hunch than anything else .... besides, you could put a ball valve in that line and set the volume for a beta test - you dam sure aren't going to hurt the air pump if you keep an eye on your pressure...
Beats buying a fan until you got a handle on how much air delivery we're talking about here...
BBQ guru has a 25cfm fan with an adjustable output gate...

an compressor has less recovery volume (air leaving the pump and entering the storage tank), more like 5 cfm or so depending on the pressure inside the tank, rated higher if going into free air. the air coming out of the tank is far more cfm and also high pressure. are you saying to just use a compressor pump without the tank? I think that is what you are saying.
Yep! - years ago I used to hook a style "D" connector to the end of my quick-connect air hose to blow off work benches, etc. when I was cleaning up.... I was after the tank but with no pressure - dumped the pressure first then have at it... clear as mud?

Overall I am useless as far as the air compressor discussion goes...
However, you can pick up DC OEM Specialty Blowers from Grainger for $100-ish. They are variable speed some go as high as 175 CFM. You can also pick up AC blowers. You would just need a power supply and the circuitry to adjust the speed.
This thread continues to pique my interest as I continue to believe that I can build a better forced draft controller than the Guru. If you are interested in any of the work we've done so far I would be happy to share.
I would also love to see what you have come up with.
Well, I am straight up tierd today. The lower part of the fire box assembly is pretty well wrapped up. I have a little thinking to do on it now. Once my pics load to drop box I will share a few.
The little 375 x-treme plasma doesn't really like 1/2" AR plate, so the trusty O/A rig was put to use. Notice the abundant piles of leaves on the ground. 2 points for me,,,,NO fires today.!!!!
Not the greatest beads running 7018 but not to bad. Uphill at that.
Kinda what it will look like finished.
The heat transferre tube in place.
The transferre tube and also the air intake ball valve in place, not so sure I like it that close to the trans tube. I may change it, trying to keep it clean looking on the side of the FB. Most everyone puts the ball valve on the FB door, but I hate the look with that big oll sucker sticking out for me to walk by and hit my leg on.
Looking down inside the FB, the trans tube will get a grate across it to prevent the coals from spilling into the tube.
FB door built, cut one side and welded the hinges. Finished the cuts and banded the door. Once again, not sure I am happy with it so its also subject to change.
A shot with the FB door open. And a good shot of my work bench, notice that the plate is sitting on plastic saw horses. Frank and DC should appericate this one since they both know how big of a bench I have in the garage piled full of tools and crap.
Looking good Tom when's supper?
I'm not impatient or nothin...

Didnt really need to but it makes it easy to catch the little defects in my welds. Had a heck of a time getting it to run right. Probably should have cleaned it up a little better first.
I cut 1 inch at each corner on the bottom and slightly bent the bottom of the chute inwards so's there was no lip for the coals to catch and bridge on.
Welded up three sides to the FB and called it a night.
I am stuck in thought about it all tho.
I want to make seymore, but i think i should use that time to build. I have to rebuild the tail end of the trailer so i can load and unload this new one.
Then move the tables and build the bunks one one side.
Not sure if i am gonna have time to get the ac installed tho.
Hummmm.......how cool would it be to have a reffer unit off a frig truck. Keep the temps down around 50 andhave no worries about bugs.

Oh man.... when I nap in the chair SOMEONE takes my pic. lol
Look at this.
Life has gone to the dogs.
And its not move the bunks,,,,,more like build them after the table and smoker is out of the way.
NOTICE !!!!! All this work is due to over design anyways.
When I built the darn thing, I thought about way to many things and extras and now I need less weight in the rear and more in the front.
WOW.....that describes the girls I dated in school.
