i know this is late, but i just found this area, lol,,,,,, i,m kind of mixed on seeing and hearing about some of this wood, i have a woodshop here and make furniture, not craftsman, but enjoy it for a switch from automotive repair,,, i spend alot of money for some of the timbers bein burnt, i made my daughter a queen size bed out of black walnut, i redid our staircase that was carpeted out of ash,,, all of our wood is import, unless you want mesquite, but I cut up pecan for smoking and look at the grain and think what i could make with that too,,,,,,,, i need to move
I feel the same way DB - then I remember that WALNUT is not suitable for "Q" ... it helps me feel better ... for awhile
.... and anyway - as small as the wood is that I use for "Q" you would be hard-pressed to build much out of it
... a guy can only use so many hand made chess pieces ...
Quality wood giving it's life for quality "Q" - not such a bad trade I'm thinking ... just sayin'

Duayne love your daily driver. I've always been a big fan of the late 40's -mid 50's trucks but the 66-73 Chevys always caught my eye, , we used to have a 67 shorted with a nice 327 pushing it around... One of those trucks that make ya wish you would've kept it around
my second truck was a 49 5 window chevy, i never got it on the road,,,,,, would have used white oak for the bed though, lol,,,,,,,,,,,, pecan and apple wood is my choice, just like the taste and mildness of it..... mesquite is readily avail here, dont use it, bein a strong wood...... would like to try cherry, but it is hard to find here..........
I bet those touristy places that advertise "Cherry Blossom Festivals" would have plenty! - just sayin'
