Got the chamber squared off and a few other things done today. The only cutting left is the chamber doors. Lots of welding to go.

They can lift 1000 lbs. you stick them to the material and hook a chain to them and lift. Made handling the material super easy.

Finished the night by welding and prepping the tank for paint. Really happy where I got in two days.

Magnets: warning should say keep fingers and all other appendages clear of the magnet when attaching magnet to metal surface. The appropriate warning diagrams should be shown as well.

Can't source 8 in pipe. Does the calculations in the photo work for making the smoke stack square? Same cross sectional area by the same length should yield the same volume. Not sure about fluid dynamics of round vs square but it can't be that different. Maybe make the square a tad bigger?

Something must be wrong with the quadratic formula...I think I seen somebody else discuss this....8 in square tubing should be fine....but I would think you shouldn't go 1/2" much bigger or smaller either way...

Made some progress. Spent a lot of time figuring how to best use my dwindling supply of quarter plate.

Is there a minimum distance from the baffle plate to the bottom rack that needs to be observed? I can go as close as 3-4 inches.

Ash removal idea. I am thinking of a bottomless "rake" design that just scrapes the ash out the slot under the fire box door instead of a tray you have to remove. The ash can go on the ground or a alum pan or something? The back piece can be 4-5 inches tall to keep the ash from going over the back. The side pieces can only be 2 in so not to block the side dampers.

onesquin, very nice work so far I like it. :)
I prefer 1" to 5" any further than that and your radiant heat is starting to go south on you in my opinion.

Thanks for the compliment. Not bad for a computer geek IT guy who has never touched a welder or torch in his life before last Saturday. I hired the welder where I work to come out Saturday for 8 hours to help me get started and teach me as we were working. He is also an instructor at the local community college. He had me laying a nice bead in no time. I have never worked with metal before, but I have done numerous large woodworking and house renovations. Really it is very similar(measuring, designing and figuring materials), just different material and tools to learn and different mistakes to make and learn from.

Resting tonight. However my neighbor called and said he had a trailer for me. It is a sno bird that holds 4 snowmobiles. Solid 2x4 boxed frame. I think it will work well. Price is right too.

We got a new couch today and the first thing I did was install an outlet with two USB plugs in the console for laptops and iPods and iPads. Thought that would be a nice touch.
