500 gal Rf first build What do think

Post by OKIECOOKER » August 13th, 2012, 8:23 am

Well guys we got started on the 500 gal RF two weekends ago. These are some of the photos so far. Used some diff ideas for the door lift, and the gate on the end of the baffle plate. Will try and post more photos later. Still got along way to go. ie fire box, warmer cabinet, trailer floor, and a lot more I want to say thanks to all of you on this site. Your posts & pics have made this build possible.

Awesome Idea on the door opener! how does it feel as far as the weight starting the lift? does it pull the door upward slow or quick? maybe a youtube video is in order? I like it! :LG:

Frank the door opens really nice. The very end of the open has the effect of pulling a compound bow back. Guessing you hunt some. The start is pretty light the door weighs about 150lbs or so you pull up about 15lbs.
TQ the shop is awesome really a nice place to work it pays to great friends.

How did you cut the door out?

And is that a @#$%^&* Kubota?

We did change the spring out to a bigger one, now the door opens smooth and has about 10 lbs of weight to lift the door. To cut the door we started out with a cutting wheel that was going way to slow(only 3 weeks till kickoff) so we ended up using a torch. Yes it is a kubota. We got the stack on yesterday and the other end cap is now on. Only one more slide rack to go on the inside and some handles on the racks. Starting to resemble a smoker!!!

There are a bunch of changes since the last pics. We will have the first burn on the Smokin Okie Tuesday night. try to season it that night. Plan on using the heat and pam way?

Sounds great! I do the heat and pam method. I also throw in the get it to 300*f and spray a mist of water close the door and let it reach temp. repeat one more time, then cook some bacon or sausage on it

it's a 24"x30" inside 26"x32" outside with 1" kaowool insulation between them held the heat in great. the door has a bit of a hot spot on the top of it.

I like the way you did the fire box. seems like a simple way to insulate it

It was pretty simple. here are some pics of the seasoning process. Thought you all would like to see it in a different way than I've seen on here.
