That's looking great! ... major progress! :kewl:

...might want a little more aggressive tread on those tires so it can handle deep snow - just sayin' ... :D

thx guys for the replies and if it snows to deep i have chains for tires rick and the coke chiller grabber70mach is a 1940 water cooled machine i restored many years ago and it keeps beer very cold so i think its not in the way right now but i'll keep you in mind.
ok now some questions whats the best temp gauges and what size would be best and should i make it one door or two and split it and weld center on cook chamber tank with two flanged doors just not sure which way to go because that door is very heavy 3/8" thick and would need a hell of a counter balance i think so give me some ideas. it was already cut when given to me or i would have made two doors.

The best temp gauge is the tel-tru from Frank with the smokerbuilder logo on the dial.
Please bug him about this cause he PROMISED he would get some done.
Otherwise yes - tel-tru gauges seem to work the best.
The other issues are on someone who's done doors like that ... :)

haha, Due to unforeseen circumstances and awesome things happening, the Tel- Tru order has been placed on hold and will be revisited soon. The pricing etc. will still be good or so I am told from Tel-Tru. I will be getting back to this soon tho!

had to beef up the support for the non swivel tires after adding all the other heavy steel and it made it much better and rolls very well on grass or gravel.
Please give any input if you see anything that should be corrected the pipe is 4 1/2" diameter by 36" tall and i put 1/4" steel tuning plates in and will adjust when trying to figure it out and i have the firebox vents below the wood burning rack i made so i hope thats right.

Thanks guys I guess I'll see how it works this weekend. I was at the local Sams Club today and the KCBS Sams Club BBQ tournament is there and was chatting with some of the pitmasters that had similar style pits whether home built or custom built and the general question I was asking was about their firebox and if it was double wall and some were and the ones that werent said if they got another pit thats what they would do on it and now they have me scratching my head about mine and if I should double pipe it before I paint or let it ride the way it is so any suggestions or opinions would be great as I know its better to have it then not but is it worth the trouble to do now.

Tough call! I guess it would be nice to do it now and not have to grind, weld and repaint. On the other hand it is ready to use. You can try it out and see what you think. You can always go back and double wall it, just a little more work. Of course you could just use some external insulation (thick blanket) on those really cold days, to see if that helps!

I know that was absolutely no help, so flip a coin, and let us know where it goes from here.

yeah smokeone i think i going to let it ride and if I think it needs it or get bored I'll try to double pipe it but right now I'm going to paint it and fired it up and burn it in and bake the paint on after it dries and see what I got.

its painted and fired up and seems to be fairly adjustable as i let it ride at 275 and opened it up to 400 and brought it back down to 300 and then to 250 and it burned with same coals and 250 for about 3 hours and i but about half a 16lb bag of kingsford in it and some big chunks of hickory so held heat good and finally let it burn down and closed it up so far so good i guess.

Thx maccas66 I have some babybacks in the fridge so going to try those first and then try a big ole brisket and just keep trying different meats and practicing for some competitions for next year to try my hand at and have fun with this thing and I'm kinda pumped up right now as I never built anything of this magnitude and had no real plans to go by except what you guys here gave me and some pictures I've seen on the internet and the pit calculater here and just really never thought I'de get it done with this size metal and I built it with a cheap harbor freight 90 amp mig and its solid and painted with a $12 harbor freight spray gun and it all came out great ,
