Rick, this is the one I used.

I'm not sure if its the same as what Frank got or not. I am thinking not, since mine had a near zero ich factor.

I just put pneumatic tires on it. The hard plastic ones were not cutting it

Here are a couple more pics of the smoke after I have used it a few times. I don't think I showed a picture of it after mounting the controller on in and having it painted

Here is a shot of the pellet firepot assembly. The amount of ash you see in the firebox area accumulated over a 16 hour smoke

I have seen this thing in action, works like a champ! Nice build Frank. :wsm:
I liked it so much I bought a drive to build one, if I ever get the Franktisserie done. #-o
Just not enough hours.
Rick you need to figure out how to clone humans, for your next project. :D I need more of me. Of course in a younger, slimmer, better looking model. :-)

BBQ is just smoke and beers!

Rick, It may be easier to clone humans than to work a miracle like that.

Kcbs rules do allow for use of pellet smokers. I use mine.

The FrankTronic Impulse build

Post by Tom_Heath » December 28th, 2014, 3:23 am

I didn't explain very well. Mine were both 5 in pipe sch40. And then used a 5in hvac elbow. No actual stack just the elbow turned down.

Did you ever get this thing to heat up to 325° like you were hoping, and how is the smoke flavor? My experience with pellet cookers is, the hotter the fire the less the smoke profile. In your case if it takes 10 minutes to hit 225° the auger is running a high percentage of the time which would normally diminish the smoke flavor. Just curious is all. For low and slow in a pellet pooper I always put an A-Maze-N tube smoker on the bottom grate to add a little more smoke flavor.

If you are still wanting to get higher temps out of this thing, cut the restrictor rod out of the middle of the auger. You'll notice the auger has a big fat rod running through the middle that limits the amount of pellets the thing can feed. If you partially or completely remove it the auger will run fuller, essentially turning this into a higher BTU burner.

I've been toying with the idea of building a custom pellet cooker myself.
