Adjustable (tuning plates) baffle plate

Post by Grabber70Mach » September 7th, 2012, 10:34 am

Ok I know that I've seen it somewhere before. I would like to make my BP adjustable, what size should I make the adjustable plates? I plan on the plate having approximately a 1" drop from side to side. This will start at 4" below the grate and be at 5" on the end.

That screw-drive adjuster on that baffle plate always makes me all misty ... beautiful...just beautiful!

being a newbie what is the advantage of the adjustable baffle and how does it adjust? is it vertical adjustment or horizontal adjustment. also, wouldn't you lose the seal on the sides that give it the reverse flow? help a brotha out and explained a confused newbie

I cut my plates so they would set on a piece of square bar on each side (sealing the ends of each of them). As long as I cut the plates straight I can close them up tight and it will not leak. Hear are a couple of pics of what I did with mine.

you can see here it sets on a flat surface you can use angle or what ever you want it will still seal the edges,

This shows them all in place works really well, I can open them up a bit between each if i want to cook some chicken and it helps a little to crisp them up with out having to get the fire any hotter.

Thats what I did you can do this sort of stuff alot of ways.
have fun with it.

The idea for me was adjustability. I don't take them out ever, but I can space them a bit if I want, for stuff like chicken. I like to be able to cause my cooker to do anything I want, ya I know (control freak). But it allows me to avoid fustration.
