I just got it Frank & I may be making a road trip if this tank doesn't work out. Can anyone give some input on advantage or disadvantages of using a oil tank vs propane tank for a reverse flow? Can anyone tell me if they make a efficient cooker? Thanks
Welcome Joe! Glad to have you here.
Remember - the cooker you're about to build will outlive your grand-kids so be careful about cutting corners for a good deal...

Hi Joe welcome to the addiction I have persoal knowledge of an oil tank smoker,Look thru some old posts for allyrat and his smoker I did most of the fabrication on it and he installed a convection plate in it and it improved it 100% he does damn good at comps with it. We are on version 5.0 and working on version 6.0 right now
Hey Joe! Welcome! Yes I have an oil tank smoker and I love it. I am constantly improving on it. It works great now and if you follow the pit calculator yours will too. The thicker metal would certainly be a benefit, but if you're on a budget I see no reason to blow it over the tank. I put a baffle plate in the bottom of mine and have no trouble holding temp.
I have a lot of pics of mine on here, feel free to hit me with questions.

Nothing I like more than to kick back with a Zima and a Virgina Slim reading 50 Shades of Grey with DCman (The Czar).
My fabrication skills & equipment aren't the best & alleyrat. I've done sheet metal repairs on my car project & taught my self to get pretty darn good @ spot welds & stitch welding lol. Your smoker looks great. I gave Frank a call & he's only about a 90 minute ride away from me & he invited me out to set me up & rolling in the right direction. This forum is like none other I've been in. You all are willing to help each other out by advice or hands on. I think I'm gonna like it here.
