Build question!!!

Post by BigTuck84 » March 1st, 2013, 9:50 am

Ok so I bought the plans for the 30x48 reverse flow pit and it calls for 1/4 in plate. My question is would it be ok to use 3/8 I can get my hands on some for dang near nothing and other than it making the pit heavy I didn't know if it would change the way it smokes/heats up. Thanks.

I think it would be fine.. other than like you say the added weight... Some of the pros will chime in soon I'm sure..

Added weight is the only thing I would be concerned with...may take more fuel to get up to temp but should hold better once there?

If you can't fix it by sheer force or cursing......then it can't be fixed.....

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

If I could find it cheap enough, I would use it.

Nothing wrong with that. Better to be heavy than use something too thin.

Right on for using the thick stuff.

Maybe pay attention to the outside dimensions. Its gonna be just a little different then with 1/4 inch.

I always make all my smoker parts heavier than others think I should. But it has never let me down. And I don't have a problem with temps at all.
