Hey guys. whats an adequate space between the bottom of your firebox on a trailer and the road? I live in Fl, so not many hills or bumpy roads, but I want to make sure kits not too low. Thanks.

I have also been thinking about this. If I don't get the clearance that I like might try a set of small rollers like you see on the back of campers/mother homes. Just a thought.

Shoot for a foot, but you can get away with 7" and a skid plate.

Might want to raise the whole smoker a bit higher. You might like it better that way anyway.

That is a fine looking smoker going there and set the smoker on the trailer and if you have to bend over to get in it well you be the judge. I agree with rail road tracks though  :LG:

well today I got my smoke stack on. Seems long to me. 5" id....46" long. Anyway I also wire wheeled the entire inside of the tank. that sucked! then I pressure cleaned it. Is there anything I should spray on the inside, like a certain oil? Also does my smoke stack seem ok? Thanks....

Seasoning= any cooking spray, and heat. Spray it down and run it to 350 or so and let it bake for a coup,e of hours, then back the temp down and cook some thighs.

I like my butterfly dampers inside the stack personally.

The other thing you could do is build a slider on top. The down side to that design is if you're cooking and it's raining, no way to keep it out.

As for seasoning, I'd rib the inside down with a thin layer of Crisco or even foray it with Pam to keep the surface rust off until you get the firebox done and can cook it in really well.

LOL .. ya all prob thought I fell asleep for the whole week.

Almost.

I finally got my groove back on last night and had to crank out a batch of speaker stands.

Then today I hit a store or two and got supplies for the new cart.

Did you get your cut out made yet. ??

You can still build a butterfly damper in there, you'll just have to work inside the stack. With a butterfly valve you can build a cover over the top. Most of the time you can take a piece of pipe the same diameter as your stack, cut it in half and then mount it on top of the stack. That'll keep the rain out.

It will be difficult at the bottom but it can be done. Welding blind is a good description. Since you already have you stack mounted, I would go for the top end with a long handle, or just a cover plate over the top.

Personally I would cut the pipe about 1ft off the shell put my butterfly in but weld it back using a small bevel slick it down with a flapper wheel then walk away. 1.5 hour job max INMHO!!!!!!!!

Build is looking good!!!!!!!!!!!!!
