need some , well alot of advise on my first build . been reading about standard and reverse flow ,is there a definate winner for turning out the best bbq ?or temp management? i have 20" 3/8 wall stainless pipe - leftovers from a job. is stainless good for a build ? i would like to build a 40" smoke chamber with an 18" fire box .modeld after the horizen 20" classic offset .thoughts? i plan on building 2 smokers at the same time .i havent started yet , i can still change my plans. i would like to use the pipe but i could make square fire boxes.

Welcome htrimcarp! The winner of the best "Q" will always be the guy that knows his equipment the best. I'm sure somewhere there's a kid with a cardboard box and a 100-watt light bulb kicking everybody's A$$ with good grub off his cooker.

Build what you like but I've always felt the Reverse Flow design takes a little less "hand-holding" and generally leaves you a little more free time during the cook for "socializing" - which as we all know is one of the main ingredients to a good cook. :D


And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D

3/8 stanless!!! WOW! I thought i liked thick pipe. I agree with the reverse flow.

thanks for the replys .i forgot to introduce mysefl . i am a carpenter and would like to get more serious about smoking --i love it. i have an electric bullet jobber now but have seriously out grown it. i also have a compresor tank 43" buy 24", not sure the gallons. its in good shape and would prolly be easyer to work with. build to start soon with qview. thanks , its agreat site and i welcome any advise !

welcome aboard! That will make a nice build. I recommend you build at least 1 of every style... can't have too many cookers!!!

I will tell you about stainless it will get hotter than hades and takes a while to learn the pit, I know this from personal experience. That be said your kids kids kids kids will still be cooking on it. Last long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

I use carbon steel because I have the tools to work with that material. But I like at least 1/4 on whatever I'm doing because it holds temp well. My $0.02


Current Smokers: Backyard RF Offset and Hybrid RF Offset trailer rig with Cowboy cooker and fish fryer, always room for more........
