Thanks to all for the warm welcome! The camping trip fell through so I kinda got started today on the small backyarder RF smoker I am attempting to build. Got the pipe cut into today. Will try to show pictures of the pipe I am using for the CC and FB. Hope they show up.
As you can see in the pictures my shop consists of my backyard! I don't have all the tools and equipment that most of you smoker builders seem to have. I just make do with what I have which is mainly an arc welder, cutting torch, grinders and hand tools. What I build may not be pretty but I can usually make it work. Have to get some 1/4" plate and some angle iron tomorrow for the end caps, baffle plate and undercarriage.
Personally I like your shop!
... it has excellent lighting
... you aren't spending any money heating or cooling it
... and every time you mow it gets the floor swept automatically .... which makes it cleaner than Smoker Tom's ...

Haven't made much progress, things keep getting in the way. Got my material and cut the middle plate and one end cap and ran out of acetylene for my cutting torch, so I am waiting for my bottle to be filled. Going to Scottsdale, AZ for grandson HS graduation for a couple of weeks so smoker is on hold. Have a piece of 4" OD, 3 ½" ID pipe 15" long for the smokestack. Need advice. I ran the pit calculator and it recommends 8.93". Should I cut the pipe or will the 15" be okay?
Only a 9" stack? I'd leave it at 15 inches - cut it later if it draws too hard but you can deal with that on the draft…. fwiw..

I kept my chimney above my head height and draws alright, it`s 4 ", but you have to be carefull with the centre of gravity being high with a heavy chimney, go on ask me how I know!

Still waiting to get my acetylene bottle back. WS sent it off to be filled May 10th and not back yet. WS said it could take as long as 3 months! Got out the old chop saw and grinders and built the smoker cart out of 1 1/2" angle. CC is not attached to the cart! Have to wait for acetylene to finish cutting out end cap and other parts.
