Sorry I have been lax on adding more updates. I have been very busy trying to finish this rig and keep my day job happy as things have been busy there too.
I have one pic from this weekend from my phone.
It has racks and reverse flow plates are finished.
I have a question in chimney placement. I had some 5" pipe so using the pit calculator it gave me 48" length. I want to keep the over all height as low as I can so how low can I place the bottom of the chimney in the chamber?
Right now I was thinking that I may sink it to just above the bottom rack? Is this too low? will the flow get messed up and cause the chamber to soot out?
Let me know what you guys think.

The stack OUTSIDE the cook chamber is all that counts towards the calculations. Keep it out the top for best ventilation and draw. Location has nearly no effect on flavor. If you want it to be short for clearance/transport etc. then make it unplug-able.

Thanks guys I was worried about that.....I can make it two piece so it can be put through a 8 foot high door with out hitting. I have friends that run a truck repair shop they have all kinds of slip on pipes and collars that will make it work.
Once again I am glad I asked.

"you can go up to 6" and decrease the height also"
That was the original plan. But the 5" was readily available with out ordering it (friends truck shop does not stock 6" exhaust pipe) and even if I have to make it 2 piece it will save me some money.

If you make a short sleeve for the inside with a cut down piece of the same pipe and let it stick out a couple inches then when you slide the sections together they won't mess with the finish on the outside of the stack (paint, etc.) …. just sayin'

Hey coma44,
What is the name of the manufacturer of those 5" exhaust pipe parts? Or do you have a website I could check out? Im looking at doing the same thing on my pit.
Did I mention cutting a short (2") piece of pipe then slice out about a half inch of it's circumference? Use a large radiator clamp to compress it and slide back into your 5 inch pipe and you have a sleeve. Tack weld it in place - maybe evena touch of silicone. Compare that time and effort to those parts … just sayin'

That was the original plan but with my luck it would get loose and fall off or something with out a weld or silicone. I am planning to store this unit in one of the Shelter Logic shed in a box things and the door is 8 foot tall so I need be able to take it apart when I put the trailer away each time. If it was say once or twice a year take it apart.....well a small tack weld and slip it over the other pipe would be exactly what I do.

First fire is tonight after work. First cook tomorrow night if the weather holds.
Working out side this spring in New England has sucked, last spring and summer we could not get a drop of rain.....this year it rains almost every day!
