I always like burning them just to get off any contaminates that may be left from the MFG process. The other option is the have it blasted.

I wait on something like your using until the build is done and season after the first burn. So I don't have any more to clean while I building. It will be fine, if it were a drum there isn't any real fabricating so you could burn it up front then season it later when completed.
