Trailer?

Post by Patricio13 » July 15th, 2013, 5:31 pm

Hello I'm looking to start my first build and trying to do it as cheap as possible. I found this trailer on CL and was wondering if it good to start my build on? The owner said its a pop up camper they started tearing apart to make a utility trailer and they think its around 4 x 10 and its $175. Is that a good price or should I keep looking? I plan on making a Reverse flow smoker out of a 250 gallon propane tank that I'm getting for $75. Is that a good price to or should I keep looking? Thanks.

The trailer looks decent. Just make sure its not rotted frame and such. I paid $100 for my 250 gallon tank if that helps any. Joe

The first thing I would do is check the weight rating on that axle… And they might help you if you have a good rapport with them

I agree with DC. Most of those old popups have light duty axles. Do you know the tire size?

Consider this you may be paying 175$ for an axel the wheels and tires may be no good and the frame of the trailer is potentially light for a 250 build especially if you are adding a warmer to it. I am a big proponent of building your own trailer truthfully the cost is really miniscule when you weigh all the odds. This is my opinion, to many people have bought trailers in hopes of using them and had to can it due to it not being sufficient enough. I am just trying to help a brother out.
If you were in Alabama I could hook you up on trailer parts very reasonable and am seriously considering becoming a dealer of trailer parts, heck I am selling them anyway. Wow 2 much typing for TQ GIVE ME A WELDER!!!!!!!

less than 600$ depending where you get your parts. I would go with a 4x8 trailer 1 3500# axel 14 or 15" wheels and tires and 2x3x11 gauge tubing if I were building it. you can even you a straight coupler to get it rated at 5000#. Where r u located at??

I believe his is referring to DC's new avatar. I agree it is a nice pic. DC's pose is like something I saw in the movie Tommy Boy.
