Food for the 2013 Gatherin'

Post by alleyrat58 » July 22nd, 2013, 2:27 pm

Alright everyone. The Gatherin' is quickly approaching  and we need to start planning food for Friday Night, Saturday, and Sunday. I am going to create another form to gather the official responses, but I would like to get your gears working in the meantime.

We are expecting 25 - 30 people this year (we will have an official head count approximately 15 days in advance) so plan accordingly as you consider the following questions:

1. Would you like to lead a tutorial on preparing one of the KCBS competition meats?
2. Would you like to lead a tutorial on preparing any other food item?
3. Would you prefer to cook for breakfast, lunch, or supper?
4. Would you prefer to prepare a main dish or side dish for that meal?

Here is the plan for the group meals:
Friday - arrival day for most: lunch on your own / supper as a group
Saturday: breakfast as a group / lunch on your own / supper as a group
Sunday - departure day: Breakfast as a group

If there is enough interest to do lunch as a group on Saturday we can plan that out also, but last year everybody kind of split their separate ways on Saturday for whatever activities they were interested in.

Frank will be making his famous biscuits and gravy for breakfast on Sunday hopefully with some beignets as well. :needfood:

For the rest of the meals we will solicit five choices from all attendees along with days / meals they can prepare them. Then we will simply draw from a hat to select who will cook what for each meal. This will give everyone a chance to cook something they love and show off their culinary prowess. :biggrillin:

We are hoping this format will help prevent Hotpants from having to take two fully-cooked, fully-untouched fatties home with him again this year. :-q :-q

Frank will be building out a Paypal button in the next couple of days. You will be able to submit your payment and enter your choices for food / tutorials all at once. If you have questions about the food situation please reply here or PM me. If you have questions about the cost or the campsite setup please direct those to Frank.

:grillin: :grillin:

If you have questions about how a redbull thrown from 15 feet away feels when it hits you in the knee, please direct those to DC.
:wrestlinchair:

Any thoughts on a southernish spot for 2014? Even Kentucky would be 6 hour haul but 5 hours closer. Just sayin, but then I suppose I might be the only southern member not making the trek.

If it can't be smoked .... try frying it. It that don't work, it's probably best just left alone

I'm in AR, I can throw money in the pot and help whoever is doing the cooking, but they won't let me fly my smoker, or any of the cold stuff. So count me in, on whatever I can be useful at. I'll be there Friday, Saturday, Sunday for sure and maybe getting there earlier too.

I too would like to throw money in a pot to go toward food. You can put me down for cooking anything but breakfast.

Man Solo - why you gotta bring me down? lol

Frank talked at one point about adding a southernish location, perhaps earlier in the year while it is still cold up here. I'd have to ask him to see where that idea is, but I'm sure he's still got plans to do it.

It was decided that the gathering in KC would happen every fall, regardless of if we had more elsewhere in the country. If you and TQ could make it up in September it would be a party for sure! :ymhug: :ymparty: \:D/ \m/ :-bd

:yth: :yth:
I would love to see many gatherings across the country. If any member wants to organize a Gathering in their area all they need to do is send me a PM and I will do what I can to assist in the planning and announcing stuff.
as far as the southern gathering goes, Solo found some great spots near the gulf. all we need to do is finish the final prep work and get a date set. Kentucky sounds like an awesome place as well!
I am with Alleyrat on the march-ish time of the year or even a spring break kind of time frame. maybe more folks could attend.

All I can do is eat and drink. So I'm in for that! :D

Cooking is questionable.

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

If anybody would be interested in a hot and fast brisket the way I do in competition I would be up for giving a tutorial on that? I had planned on bringing my gravity clone.
I plan on coming in Friday afternoon or so.

Ken

Ken
It's all yours, Ken. Rick has breakfast on Saturday and Frank is making biscuits and gravy on Sunday morning. Rick is also planning a tutorial on the 'Care and Feeding of Fatties' for Saturday.

As for the rest of food, Frank and I decided it's every man for himself. Bring your smoker, bring some food to cook and we'll just have a feast. :biggrillin: :biggrillin: :biggrillin: :biggrillin:

I'll be glad to help Rick with breakfast, and anything else I can do to help others with what they are doing. I have some money to throw in and I like to eat. So I'm in. :grillin:
