Stainless Vertical Gas Smoker Build

As promised, here's the start of my build. Thanks to all for fielding questions and giving advice!

Here's the raw materials. 1" square tubing and .0435" sheet goods, all stainless, a chop saw.....and beer, of course.

Got the cuts made. Being a cabinetmaker by trade, having to make multiple identical length cuts called for a jig with adjustable stop.

And the finished pile o' parts.

I gotta say, working with metal is new to me and I think I'll stick with wood. Hell, you look at this stuff the wrong way and the red stuff flows! Oh, and the splinters are a lot nastier too!!!

Alright, so here goes.

You said your new to working with metal, but you began with stainless. Awesome, you may as well jump in the deep end of the pool first since you plan on swimming there anyway. You can do it, don't forget the pics.

I guess you don't remember me telling you guys in my first post that my wife works for a stainless coil distributor. All the stainless was free!!!!

Besides, if it was easy, anyone could do it.....

Actually got some welding done. After a few practice pieces, I put together a side frame. Mig welding is a lot easier than the old stick welder my dad taught me with, which was almost 40 years ago! The auto-darkening helmet is better than bacon. OK, it's almost as good as bacon.

I'll get more pics today.

More progress today. I made some stops on the bench for the side frames. 6 frames later and more work scheduled for tomorrow.
