New BUild Question

Post by oneeyedwillysbbq » August 5th, 2013, 3:19 pm

I am getting ready to build my new smoker and I am really wanting to do a rib box on it as well similar to the bubba grills smokers. It is a 250 gal tank. My question is there any way to control the heat in the rib separate from the main chamber or is going to have to same temp.
Thanks
in advance

Not sure exactly if you are referring to the warmer that sits above the fire box or not, but if you are, you can put in a baffle control in that will allow you to control the amount of heat that enters the box. The build that Smokerbuilder.com and Shirley Fabrication just did for a raffle, had this exact design. You can watch a video of the entire build at www.bbqsuperstars.com

Yes but like on the bubba grills version it is open so it is part of the smoker and can cook also

I've looked at Bubba's website and didn't see anything like you are referring to. Do you have a pic you can post here so we can see what you are asking about?

I looked at the video and this is somewhat of a common design. One issue I have with it is the single stack. This means you need to always be running the rib rack. I prefer the design that uses two stacks and a baffle control for the rib box. As I stated in my earlier post, this is the build that was filmed start to finish by bbqsuperstars.

I can not find the video. But what you are saying is there are baffles between the fire box and rib box and the rib box is closed off from the main chamber? does that affect the temp in the main chamber

Yes the baffle is controllable. You will see what I mean if you look at the video.
Go to bbqsuperstars.com and on the right hand side of the page you will something called BBQSuperStars Morning Show Live From Bucky... Scroll down the 7th video. This is the one that shows what we are talking about.
