Evolution Rage 2

Post by Frank_Cox » March 31st, 2013, 8:18 pm

I bought this saw about a year ago and never posted the pics.
I bought it at Lowes for $299.00. Not the top of the line but it does a heck of a job for the price. I use it nearly everyday and still have the original blade in it. I will try a different brand blade soon tho. I cut mostly 1/8 and 1/4 inch material in it. I have cut 16 gauge angle with it but it likes the thicker material a little better.

It does work well. I like it better than my abrasive blade cutter.

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

Forgive my lack of knowledge in this area but I too just saw a video on the Evolution metal cutting saw. I have been using a 3" air powered cut off tool and it sucks. I saw this tool cut 1/4" plate like it was 3/4" plywood....

Let me ask this, if you were to buy a metal cutting tool for intermittent use, would you use something like this or is there a $$$ equivalent ?

I did not take into consideration of the safety issues with that 3" cutoff wheel... Now that I'm done ... I read all those possibilities....EEK !

Check out Harbor Freight. I borrowed a 14" cutoff saw from a friend and it cut the 1" 16G square tubing just fine. Can't beat the price but I wouldn't use any of their stuff all day long, every day.

If it's tourist season, how come I can't shoot 'em?

Hi Pete,

I have a chop saw...it works well for the POS it is.. I need to cut 1/4" plate for the fire box and dampers and baffle. I used the 3" cutoff and then afterwards read the dangers of doing things this way. The last thing I need is a whizzing fly by frisbee cut off wheel.

I am a woodworker and build acoustic guitars as a winter time consumer... When I saw this thing cut the steel, wow! If I can cut the 4x8x1/4 plate into the pieces as if it were plywood, I'm smilin'

If you are going to cut 1/4 plate, I would recommend going with a plasma cutter. Much more versatile than a saw.
