I am sorry for the dumb question but what is the purpose of this baffle? (Other than the obvious--heat control). Can I get by without it?

Can you give me some information about this set up? I was under the impression that I would be able to use a sheet of 1/8" steel. It looks like you have pieces cut into (4"-5") slabs.

Also, what was the thickness of the steel that you used? The hinges ( I really hope you don't mind if I borrow that idea) look to be 3/16" or 1/4"?
By the way, this is the coolest project I have seen in a very long time. I think it's great. I have been talking about you and this project for he last 3 weeks. This is a great educational tool.

Thanks for the effort,

Mike

Thanks for the kind words Mike!
I used 1/4" for everything on the build. The tuning plates are for controlling hot spots
